THE MEN OF THE FIFTEENTH KENTUCKY INFANTRY

In the fall of September, 1861, with Kentucky's neutrality at an end, one thousand men and boys joined what would eventually be named the Fifteenth Kentucky Volunteer Infantry.  They came from the Kentucky counties of Jefferson, LaRue, Shelby, Spencer, Hart, Hardin, Bullitt, Campbell, Nelson and Green; but they also came from many Northern states as well to join up.  And nearly half of the men were new to America's shores -- Irish and German immigrants.  Follow the links below to an index to the Fifteenth Kentucky's roster, with names of the men's parents where known, and dates of birth and death.  For more information, see the "Biographical Roster" in The Battle Rages Higher.
