Col. Pope Accepts a Gift of Winter Blankets, Louisville Democrat, December 1, 1861 THE LADIES' KINDNESS AND THE SOLDIERS' GRATITUDE -- In a letter to a member of the Sanitary Commission acknowledging the receipt of five boxes of blankets and garments sent by the ladies, Col. Pope thus gracefully and heartily expresses the gratitude of our gallant soldiers: CAMP POPE, Nov. 28, 1861 On the part of the regiment I can not acknowledge in terms too kind this noble gift, or duly thank those who, seated in their comfortable homes, still remember the poor soldier in his exposure to the inclement season. Trusting that the blessing of God may be upon us, I am, truly yours, CURRAN POPE Louisville Democrat, December 1, 1861 |
