MAJOR CAMPBELL ADVERTISES FOR ADDITIONAL RECRUITS, LOUISVILLE JOURNAL, OCTOBER 1, 1861
To the Young Men of Louisville. All persons wishing to enter the service of the United States in Colonel Pope's Regiment, now in camp at the Fair Grounds, will receive in addition to the regular pay a bounty of $100,160 acres of land, and a pension from the Government. Persons who have families, and are desirous of making provision for them while they are absent in the service of their country, can do so by the system of allotment tickets. Adjutant McDowell of this regiment will issue said tickets to those who join any company in the regiment. We have comfortable quarters, and will receive companies or parts of companies, and muster them in at once. To all who are anxious to be early in the service, we say come. We deem it unnecessary to appeal to your patriotism in this the hour of your country's trial, believing that you are ready and willing to answer your country's call. The undersigned will be found in the city for two or three days and Col. Jouett will be found at Camp Sherman. W.P. CAMPBELL, Major of Col. Pope's Regiment |
